Communication
- More boards
Suggestion:
We want a separate board to discuss <insert topic>.
Denied because:
MS is not meant to be a Usenet with all kinds of discussion
boards (groups). We have boards for a wide variety of mud
related issues. Each guild has one and there are a number
of general ones. There is one board (the chat board) that
can be used for non mud related topics. We intend to leave
it at just that one.
- Turning off the
shout channel
Suggestion:
Those shouting people annoy me, why can't I just turn it
off, so that I will no longer hear shouts.
Denied because:
The shout channel by definition is meant to be heard by
everybody. Allowing players not to hear it defies its purpose.
Excessive use of shout and thus annoying others is against
the rules (specifically rule #5) and may be a reason for
admins to remove the ability to shout from that player.
If you have something to shout about, you can be sure that
the message will be sent to all players online. (Note that
if they use certain mudclients, they still may not see it.)
That is how we planned it to be and how we want it to be.
- Ignoring players
Suggestion:
Player X annoys me, I just don't want to see any more messages
from him, please add an ignore command that I could use.
Denied because:
That does not really agree with our perspective. If you
read the rules, it is clear that anyone really annoying
you with tells or similar is most likely breaking them.
Tell the person to stop, if you clearly state that, they
are required to respect your wish. If he or she does not,
report the incident to the admins. Allowing players to not
receive messages from other players is certainly not something
that will add to the general atmosphere in the game. Encouraging
respect for others and common decency does.
- A vote board
Suggestion:
Can we have a board where players can vote on things, for
example whether they want certain changes or not?
Denied because:
We did have a vote board a long time ago, but it turned
out to be a fake pretence of democracy. Admins have other
goals then players do. The two groups look at the game from
different points of view. Asking players to simply vote
yes or no does not add anything useful. Use the discussion
board instead to support or oppose issues with arguments.
Argumentation is a lot more useful in decision making than
a plain yes/no vote.
- Intermud tells
Suggestion:
There exists some form of communication between muds called
the intermud. We as players would like to have access to
it.
Denied because:
Intermud is implemented on MS, but can only be used by immortals.
Intermud is not something we want to make available to players.
It may be nice to have, but it also brings a number of complications
that we don't feel are worth the trouble.
