How to get experienced (part 1/2 Combat)

Your total experience is made up of your combat and quest experience added together. The majority of the experience you gain in Midnight Sun will be from combat, and as you gain experience, you will be able to raise your stats and become more powerful, thus defeating more powerful foes and, you guessed it, raising your stats some more!

You gain experience points per hit, up to the maximum amount they were worth to kill (so you can't get bonus experience by hurting them, healing them and then hurting them some more) but that does mean if you have to run away from something, you don't lose out on the experience you earned so far, but also means having a stronger player along to do most of your damage will also soak up most of your xp.

Healing
Naturally, once you start fighting things, you'll start getting hurt, and will want to avoid that. While several guilds have healing spells and regenerative powers, the majority of your healing will be done via three things, food, alcohol, and drinks. You can see 'help healing', 'help food' and 'help drink' for more on this, but basically, the beers available at the Central Castle Pub (SOA, 2e) and the food from the castle food stall (SOA, 1e, enter food stall) will be your main sources. They give you a chunk of healing at the moment of consumption, but also as you fill up your capacity, the process of your capacity emptying back out gives you some periodic healing as well. So you get a burst and then a slow trickle of healing.
